Horsham little athletes shine

On Saturday, February 1, and Sunday, February 2, Horsham Little Athletics sent 11 athletes to the State Combined Event Championships held at Lar Birpa Athletics Complex in Bendigo.

The Combined Event consists of four to seven disciplines, depending on the child's age group. Events consisting of four or five disciplines were held on one day, and events consisting of more than five disciplines were held on two consecutive days.

Athletes up to U13 did five events on one day, U14 did six events over two days, and u15 & above did seven events over two days.

Jett Hill took home a silver medal in the under-13 boys, totalling 1719 points. James Burton also won a medal, finishing third in the under-17 boys with 3358 points.

Jack Sawyer came fifth in the under-12 boys' category with 1304 points, Asha Meek fifth in the under-15 girls' category with 3841 points, and Benjamin Jowett seventh in the under-13 boys' category with 1553 points, delivering Horsham their best result in some time.

Darcy Venn from Stawell came sixth in the under-15 girls with 3477 points.

Results:

U10 Boys: Hughie Cameron 41st, 727points,  Kaiden Jowett 52nd, 602pts, Jaxon Durack 54th, 537 – retired injured after three events.

U12 Boys: Jack Sawyer 5th, 1304pts.

U12 Girls: Indi Finn 36th, 613pts.

U13 Boys: Jett Hill 2nd, 1719pts. Benjamin Jowett, 7th, 1553pts.

U14 Boys: Luke White 11th, 1807pts.

U15 Boys: Christopher Burton 16th, 2397pts.

U15 Girls, Asha Meek, 5th, 3841pts. Darcy Venn (Stawell) 6th - 3477pts.

U17 Boys, James Burton 3rd, 3358pts.

The previous weekend, Charlie Inkster and Ash Meek competed at the Victorian Country Champs and, with their Eureka teammates, won gold in the under-20 4x100m.

Earlier in the day, Inkster came fourth in the triple jump, fifth in the 100m and sixth in the high jump.

Asha Meek placed fifth in the 100m and 7th in the 400m, which was a personal best.
