Graham Krause and Cheryl Elliot officially unveil the plaque on the new shed

On Saturday June 11th a new building was opened at Jeparit’s Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum. The Jean and Bob Merrett Memorial Horse Drawn Carriage Shed will be home to a collection that had been assembled by the late Bob Merrett. A bequest of $50,000 from Bob and his late wife Jean was the major source of funding for the building.

Speaking at the opening the Hindmarsh Shire Mayor Cr Debra Nelson welcomed all those present including her fellow councillor Ron Lowe. Debra said that the new shed would be a fantastic addition to the museum. She also spoke on how important it was to support local events in your backyard and praised the work of the volunteers that run the museum. Hindmarsh Shire will be spending $40,000 to help develop a master plan to develop the tourist potential of the museum.

Graham Krause and Cheryl Elliot on behalf of the Merrett family then unveiled a plaque to open the building.
