The Member for Mallee, Andrew Broad, confirmed late last week that construction to connect the residents of Jeparit to the National Broadband Network has begun.
“This is great news for the people of Jeparit. Approximately 290 premises will benefit from the NBN in the Jeparit area and for them to know today that they are now one step closer to connection is really good.
“I have always said that people living in regional areas must have access to a reliable, fast internet connection.
“We live in a competitive world that relies on the internet for almost all areas of life, from business and education to health and social interaction. Even farmers use it for risk management and increased productivity.
“If the Government doesn’t ensure that regional areas have the same access to resources as metropolitan areas, we’ll be left behind and that will have an impact, not just locally but on a national scale.
“I’m so pleased that Jeparit is now at construction stage and I look forward to seeing more towns in the Wimmera, Mallee and Mildura regions join them,” Mr Broad said.
The NBN rollout strategy has been focused on connecting areas with the poorest service first.
