Jeparit welcomes District Governor
JEPARIT Lions Club welcomed their District Governor, Malcolm Qualtrough, for a meal during his tour of Lions Clubs in 201 V1-4 District on Wednesday August 2.
Malcolm and his wife, PDG Jill Qualtrough, along with the Zone Chairperson, Maureen Clarke, were welcomed to the club by President Steve King and introduced to members and then taken on a tour of the facilities on hand.
While the club may be small in numbers, it certainly makes up for the lack of numbers with hospitality second to none.
“Jill and I had a lovely evening with the members,” District Governor Malcolm Qualtrough said.
“We kept formalities to a minimum and just talked like old friends,” he said.
Jeparit Lions are unique among most service clubs as they do their own catering. The members are on a roster to provide a meal for each dinner meeting.
And what a meal it was, the men put out a two-course dinner that started with a beautiful pumpkin soup and followed that with chicken breasts and vegetables.
During the meal, discussion surrounded the work undertaken by the club to assist the local community which includes their regular auctions.
Attached to their club rooms, the club has a veritable treasure trove of goods that have been donated to the club for their auctions.
“The range of goods is staggering, with something on site for everyone,” member Pat Logan said.
The Qualtrough’s were impressed by the work done by a club with so few members and noted that Jeparit must be a proud community.
After the meal, Malcolm provided the members with a brief rundown of the year’s theme for which Lions International has gone back to basics and it is simply “We Serve”.Malcolm reminded all present that ultimately that is what the Lions organisation is all about; serving the community.
“We do what we can to help and assist people in our communities,” Malcolm said.
