Over the last year readers of The Argus have been following the progress of the straw bale house being built on the site of the old Yaapeet Hall. After eighteen months of hard work the Fuller family moved into the house in April.

We have spoken to Jon, Julie, Macy, Joad and Celie to see how they feel about their new house and the building process.

Jon showed his sense of humour when he observed the best thing about the house is that it is finished. He is very pleased with the finish of the render both inside and out. Jon thinks that the recycled wood used in the house has come up very well and fits in with the rendered walls. The hardest part of building the house was the labour intensive nature of the straw bale construction. The project did take longer than expected especially the rendering. Mal, their main builder, was very flexible as he worked around the cropping and harvesting periods. For Jon it is a dream that he had for many years finally falling into place.
