NATIONALS Candidate for the seat of Mallee Andrew Broad continues to lead the vote tally however, the seat has yet to be officially declared at the time of going to print.
Leading with 33,270 votes, almost 10,000 votes clear of his nearest rival, Mr Broad said the declaration of polls does not look likely to occur until mid next week.
“So, it’s still not official,” Mr Broad said.
Last week Liberal Candidate for Mallee Chris Crewther conceded defeat and gave his congratulations for Mr Broad for his win in the seat of Mallee.
Mr Crewther said, “It has been a hard fought contest but the people of this electorate are worth fighting hard for. Thank you to all my campaign team, supporters and all the people who took the risk and voted for change right across the Mallee electorate. In particular, I would like to thank my wife Grace, my parents Barry and Debbie, and my campaign manager, who have put up with me through thick and thin over the last few months and who put in so much time and effort. Lastly, I wish Andrew Broad all the best in his new role as the Member for Mallee and urge him to fight as hard as he can for the Mallee electorate to ensure that the people living in this electorate get their fair share.”
At present Andrew Broad has not accepted the win. With 95% of the vote counted he leads by just over 10,000 votes.
