The first stop for the walking bus was the hospital where Shekinah Hurlstone and Ayla Roberts began their walk. It then proceeded along Taverner Street and up Federal Street to the Post Office where a number of country students left their buses to join the walk. The students, teachers and several parents then walked down King Street to the school.

The Walking School Bus is an Australia-wide initiative to get more students to lead a healthier, more active lifestyle by simply including a walk at the beginning, at lunch-time and at end of each day. The event also promotes reduced car-dependency, greater use of public transport, cleaner air, improved diets and road safety to primary school children throughout Australia. The Walking School Bus initiative is in its 17th year.
